Donate your children's clothes and toys to asylum seekers and refugees.
Linda recently met an inspiring human being - Major Hilton Harmer OAM - a former Officer of the Salvation Army for 55 years. In retirement, and from his front lawn each month, Hilton continues to donate food, blankets, clothes and other items directly to the needy. His "Big Giveaway Days" are attended by disadvantaged families from Australia, in addition to asylum seekers and refugees from countries such as Uganda, Burma, Syria, Sierra Leon and Afghanistan, some of whom have only been out of detention a week.
Spending the morning with Hilton and other volunteers, allowed Linda to see first-hand the direct impact of his work. Goods are given directly to those who need it, with very little waste. Hilton is familiar with the stories of most of those present, and scratching the surface on the day revealed some heartbreaking stories.
Having lived and worked in Africa and India, where she was closely involved with an NGO helping marginalised women and children in the red light district of Mumbai, Linda is passionate about supporting underprivileged groups, in particular those who have experienced significant trauma and upheaval. As such, SPP would like to continue to support Hilton's work, and will gratefully accept any donations of clean children's clothing and toys on their behalf.
